Sobering Facts about Industrial Safety
Some sobering facts about Industrial Safety :
1. In the USA. On average, one person every three days dies due to incidents involving just one type of mobile equipment – the forklift.
2. A workplace fatality costs between 2 million and 5 million dollars, depending upon the circumstances of the incident.
3. Most accidents involving forklifts are the direct result of the machine operator, not realizing that another worker is in the area.
4. Many machine operators are injured when the machine they are operating runs into inanimate objects such as, building support columns. Mobile equipment is built solidly, with poor sight lines, and no crumple zones (as are found in our automobiles) so this results in kinetic energy from a collision with another object gets transferred directly to the machine operators’ body, often causing soft tissue damage, or more serious injuries.
